Come to Alma, Wisconsin for the weekend to experience Swiss culture and help us celebrate our town's unique heritage! Help us coronate the next Swiss Miss on Friday night at the Big River Theatre at 5pm. Also, this evening, Danzinger Vineyards will be hosting Doo Da Day! Bring your Polka dancing shoes! Restaurants and other locations in town offer special Swiss food items such as cheese fondue, berner platte, zuricher geschnetzelte mit spatzle, braised beef and polenta, bundnernusstorte, and Toblerone scouffle. Throughout the day on Saturday, enjoy polka music, accordian players, yodeling, and Alpine horns! Even take a turn making the iconic sound yourself. The Swiss Rock Toss, or Steinstossen, is a much talked about event. Men, women and children see how far they can toss a 20lb rock! Castlerock Museum, which houses a world class collection of medieval armament, has exhibit displays highlighting Swiss Pikeman and Halberdiers, and a short Swiss history lesson is offered every hour at the Alma Area Museum. Local art galleries and gift shops sponsor a “hiking trail” with special Swiss-inspired items for sale, along with a cash prize for one lucky hiker. "Hikers" receive an Alma Swiss passport, and get stamps at participating locations. The passports are then put into a drawing, which is held at 4pm on Saturday. And then Swiss Heritage Days ends by bringing old and new friends together for an evening of music and dancing in the streets, just as generations before have done! Join us for a fun-filled weekend, and get into the spirit by wearing Swiss-inspired dress or simply anything red and white! Find out more at SwissHeritageDays.com!
